Welcome to my website!

I'm a linguist with special expertise in the field of theoretical syntax, and I work as a lecturer at the Linguistics Department of UWC

My PhD work focused mainly on issues relating to the syntax interface and the nature of syntactic categories
. In particular, I looked at patterns of syncretism in the adpositional domain of Afrikaans to determine what the fine-grained structure of that domain must be, and also to gain insight into how adpositions in the same language actually form subclasses that specialise in lexicalising different parts of that structure.

My most recent work branches into a domain that is coming to be known as syntactic ecology. With Theresa Biberauer, I am the principal investigator on a new project entitled The Syntactic Ecology of Kaaps (SEcoKa), running from 2019-2021. The project aims to conduct the first systematic formal investigation into the morphosyntax of Kaaps, a hybrid variety of Afrikaans spoken on the Cape Peninsula (read more).

This is the platform that I use to share information about my research. I also have a teaching portfolio which can be accessed here.
